This blog is dedicated to Sir Isaac Newton! Today is Sir Isaac Newton’s 170th birth anniversary. Sir Isaac Newton ([Old Style-25 December 1642 – 20 March 1727] and [New Style: 4 January 1643 – 31 March 1727]) was an English discoverer, natural philosopher, mathematician & inventor.

He was a great scientist who made lots of contributions to the Science & Mathematics. His ground-breaking work like Newton’s law of gravitation & laws of motion revolutionised approach towards classical mechanics. Besides this, he also contributed to the fields like Optics and Astronomy. He also studied Heat & Sound.

His most famous literary work Principia Mathematica was published in 1687. He formulated Differential & Integral Calculus with Gottfried Leibniz. He also demonstrated generalised Binomial theorem, developed Newton’s method for approximating the roots of the study of power series.

He is acknowledged by everyone as one of the most influential scientist of all times. English poet Alexander Pope wrote this famous epitaph to describe Newton’s work:

Nature and nature’s laws lay hid in night;

God said “Let Newton be” and all was light.

However, Newton himself was more modest about his achievements. The following line written by him in a letter written to Robert Hooke is very famous:

‘If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.’
